I went to the Growth School Cloud Data Engineering Workshop, thinking I’d learn cool stuff about cloud data engineering. But what happened was kind of disappointing. The hour was not as great as I hoped. It had a bit of trying to make things fun, not-so-interesting information, and then suddenly they were trying to sell something, making me wonder if it was worth it.

A Musical Start and the Growth School Pitch
The workshop began with some music and asking, “What’s your name, and where do you live?” It was supposed to be fun, but it made the workshop feel more like just saying hi instead of really learning something. They talked about Growth School, saying we could be in the top 1% of professionals and that education should be affordable and important. It sounded cool, but what they taught afterwards didn’t match up to that big promise.
Meet the Mentors – Riya Bansal and Sanket Singh
Let me tell you a bit about the mentors, Riya Bansal and Sanket Singh. They are really smart people who know a lot about cloud computing and data science. However, even though they know a ton, the workshop they led wasn’t as great as it could have been. It felt like they were just saying things they memorized instead of making it interesting for us to learn.
Revealing Cloud Data Engineering
The workshop started by talking about the basics of cloud data engineering and the skills needed to be successful in this field. However, I found that the explanations were too simple and didn’t include real-life examples or applications. This made it hard for me to fully understand and left me wanting more detailed information.
Describing Responsibilities
Talking about the job duties of a data engineering representative felt rushed. It missed a chance to explore the actual problems and choices data engineers face. Because it didn’t go into much detail, I’m curious about how the information applies in real-life situations.
Data Engineer vs. Data Scientist – Differences
The explanation of the differences between a data engineer and a data scientist was too simple. It didn’t give enough details to help people understand how these jobs work together in managing data. I wish there was more information to make it clearer.
To explain further, let’s break it down:
When we talk about data, there are two main roles: data engineers and data scientists. Imagine data engineers as the builders of the foundation, like constructing a house. They set up the systems and structures to collect and store data efficiently.
On the other hand, data scientists are like detectives. They analyze the data to find valuable insights, like solving a mystery. They use tools and techniques to understand trends and make predictions.
Now, think of data as a treasure. Data engineers dig the treasure chest (build the foundation), and data scientists open it to find the gems inside (extract valuable insights). Both roles are crucial, working hand in hand to make sure the whole process runs smoothly and effectively. So, it’s like teamwork – one group builds the tools, and the other uses them to discover important information.
The Sales Pitch
The workshop changed gears and turned into a big sales pitch. They started talking about a six-month course that has ten parts, and it costs Rs10,000. It was weird because the workshop was supposed to be about learning, but suddenly they were all about selling this expensive program.
The workshop didn’t give much useful information before this, so it made me wonder if the whole thing was just a way to get people to buy the pricey Growth School program. I wasn’t sure if it was really worth it.
Conclusion:
The Cloud Data Engineering Workshop at Growth School didn’t live up to our expectations. It gave us only a basic understanding of the topic and ended with a sales pitch that didn’t seem convincing. This difference between what was promised and what we actually got left me and other participants disappointed.
It made us doubt whether the Growth School program is frank about providing valuable education. When we’re learning new things, it’s important to be careful and make sure that what’s promised is actually delivered.
