Recently, I undertook a journey to enhance my skills in Power BI by attending a 2-day workshop hosted by Skill Nation, led by their CEO, Jatan Shah. Expectations ran high as I entered the session, expecting insightful learning experiences and valuable takeaways. However, my optimism quickly waned as the events of Day 1 ended.

Jatan Shah started the session with an extensive introduction of himself and Skill Nation, engaging us with tales of their successes and the purported success stories of previous workshop attendees.
However, the authenticity of these claims felt doubtful, leaving me sceptical from the start. Soon after, Jatan Shah delved into the fundamentals of Power BI, expounding upon its significance as a data visualization tool and offering a glimpse into its interface.
As someone with a background in data science, I found the content to be disappointingly basic. Jatan’s discussion revolved around fundamental topics such as data importation and the creation of elementary visualisation charts.
Information that could easily be sourced from freely available online platforms with more depth and clarity. The hands-on session, where participants were tasked with crafting simple dashboards using pre-provided datasets, lacked the depth and complexity I had hoped for. It became apparent that the content failed to provide diverse skills to the audience, leaving many of us underwhelmed and disengaged.
Prior to enrollment, promises of bonuses totalling Rs 16000 were shown before prospective participants, fueling expectation and interest. However, as Day 1 ended, it became increasingly evident that these bonuses were nothing more than marketing tricks, empty of substance or tangible value. The difference between promise and reality left a bitter taste in my mouth, serving as a stark reminder of the risks of blind faith in promotional speech.
Throughout the duration of the session, meaningful interaction with the audience was totally absent, with Jatan assuming the role of a lecturer rather than a facilitator of dynamic discourse.
In conclusion, Day 1 of the Power BI workshop by Jatan Shah proved to be disheartening, failing to meet the lofty expectations set forth by Skill Nation’s promotional initiatives.
Despite the nominal financial investment required for attendance, the absence of meaningful content and engagement made the experience useless. As I reflect upon the events of the day, I am reminded of the importance of understanding and critical evaluation of educational opportunities present in the marketplace. With a sense of cautious optimism, I proceed to Day 2, hopeful for a more enriching and fulfilling experience.
Stay tuned for my reflections on Day 2 as I continue my journey through the world of Power BI ability.
